Lego makes female scientists playset... after getting told off by little girl

Charlotte Benjamin wanted ‘more Lego girls’. So Lego did just that.

LEGO HAVE INTRODUCED a new all-female scientists playset  - but not before they got a telling off from a little girl who was unhappy with the gender balance of the toys.

Back in February, 7-year-old Charlotte Benjamin made headlines after she wrote an angry letter to Lego, detailing her displeasure that there were ‘barely any Lego girls’.

She wrote:

Today I went to a store and saw Legos in two sections the pink girls and the blue boys. All the girls did was sit at home, go to the beach, and shop, and they had no jobs but the boys went on adventures, worked, saved people, and had jobs, even swam with sharks. I want you to make more Lego girl people and let them go on adventures and have fun OK!?! Thank you.

Within a week of her letter going viral, Lego responded, saying they were “very focused on introducing more female characters” to invite more girls to build.

It seems Lego have followed through on their promise with the new Research Institute playset, which includes three female scientists – an astronomer, a palaeontologist and a chemist.

At the moment, the playset is only available on the US Lego online shop, but fingers crossed little girls over here will get to play with them very soon.
